The rotary switch consists of a contact: (1 - 2). By turning it counterclockwise, the contact (1 - 2) closes between the starting point and the end (see drawings), and opening the contact from the end point to the end of the course. Returning the switch clockwise, the contact (1 - 2) remains open (does not operate).

Applications:

Typical application: gas ignition from ovens/stoves. Mechanically coupled to the gas register, once activated in a counterclockwise direction, the contact (1 - 2) turns on the ignition plant, at the same time that the gas is released.
