Emicol's continuous improvement process, which already uses the Toyota Production System (TPS), gains a new component at the beginning of the year with the training of 40 employees in the company's logistics area in the 5S Methodology, by the Continuous Improvement engineer Karina Hasegawa, graduated in Production Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos.

With the implementation of the Japanese 5S methodology – Seiri (Classification), Seiton (Order), Seiso (cleaning), Seiketsu (standardization), Shitsuke (Discipline) – Emicol Eletro Eletrônica intends to develop a systematic planning, allowing immediately greater productivity and safety , organizational climate and employee motivation, with consequent improvement in organizational competitiveness.

In addition to bringing knowledge from within the university, the company continues to pursue its process of continuous improvement.

In the coming days, the multifunctional team trained in the 5S System will start putting into practice the theoretical training received and show the first positive results for the organization.

According to Peter Friedrich, president of Emicol, it is important to bring the knowledge of Universities into the company, since the young public is motivated to apply the knowledge received in the classroom:

“We are even forming a technology innovation team with several professionals, whom we recently hired, to bring news from universities and innovation centers to the company. We are joining the experience of senior professionals with the will of young people”, he said.

For Roberto Domenice, Operations Manager, the idea is to disseminate knowledge of the methodology throughout the company:

“5S in its essence eliminates everything that is not needed or does not add value,” explains Domenice.

According to employee Paulo F. Guilger, “although the training was short, it was very rich in content, which reinforces the idea that we can and should always do the best, optimizing resources and time, always seeking an improvement in performance, safety and hygiene in the work environment, providing us with a better day-to-day wherever we are”.

“The 5S training adds a lot of value, both in professional and personal life, as it gives us concepts that make everyday life easier in any environment through the sense of organization, hygiene, care, use and discipline. Allowing better use of time and space, and having fluidity and efficiency in any process”, said employee Richard M. Magalhães.

“5S training is of great importance for each employee, not only inside but also outside the company, in our daily lives. Rethinking what really adds or doesn't add value, what is taking up space and what we are really going to use, making our workplace clean, organized, leaving only what will be used and, most importantly, keeping these practices in our day day to day and multiply this 5S culture”, said the employee Gabriel GS Silvestre.
